Stonehaven Path Development |

Description:
To develop detailed path specifications for the coastline south from Stonehaven

Objectives:
To contribute towards the development of the Stonehaven Path Network, for locals and visitors,
Demonstrate the importance of well managed and promoted paths to a sustainable community.
Good practice in sustainable path specifications and management of rural paths.

Process/Stages:
Historic: The Stonehaven Path Network Feasibility Study (2003) identified the need to improve coastal path links south from Stonehaven. In 2006 the path from Stonehaven to Dunnottar Castle fell in to a state of disrepair and was not fit for purpose. Strong community and political support for restoring this path and to extend it south came through the core path planning consultation exercise.
May 2007: Brief prepared and put out to tender
June 2007: Conserve, specialist path contractors were appointed and Health and Safety document produced.
July 2007: Study completed with involvement of community stakeholders and local landowners.
