The new community radio station for Stonehaven and the Mearns is being launched on Saturday 6th June. Test transmissions are already being broadcast on 105.7 FM (Stonehaven), 106.2 FM (Inverbervie) and 107.3 FM (Laurencekirk). We have a potential audience of about 30,000 for our service, which is going to be a mix of music, drama, and interesting and entertaining talk. Read More

16/10/08 2009 Plans for Open Air Pool's 75th Birthday The Stonehaven Open Air Pool run by THE Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool have already taken the plunge with plans for a very special year in 2009. Yes, it will be 75 years since the magnificent art deco pool opened and new blood and cash are needed to help it survive and prosper. Mary Gardner, of the Friends, is dreaming of a fairy godmother or godfather to pay for a new chute and modernise the showers. Also needed are more volunteers and staff to run the place.” The pool will reopen on May 30 2009 and there will also be a children’s fun day for the official opening of the new children’s paddling pool. The Stonehaven based business, provides a unique service to the North East of Scotland, helping make real nappies a realistic choice for busy mums in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and North Angus. 13/09/08 Great News for Stonehaven’s Famous Hogmanay Celebrations The town’s Open Air in the Square event, the music event, which in recent years ran alongside the world-renowned fireball festival, was in jeopardy this year when the organising committee failed to attract new volunteers.A new committee of volunteers was formed in July after repeated pleas for people to get involved. Mearns FM has today announced that they have received a grant of £6,000 from Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, which will help with the cost of transmitters for Laurencekirk and Inverbervie. 16/05/08 Norwegian Band Visits Stonehaven and The Mearns Trengereid Muisikklag, a small wind band from the Norwegian fjord town of Trengereid near Bergen, visited Aberdeen and the Mearns this May. The Band spent several days in Aberdeen, and on Saturday 10 May 2008, they had a sightseeing tour to the Mearns incorporating two short outdoor band performances. They enjoyed a visit to Dunnottar Castle and Fettercairn Distillery and had free time in Stonehaven.Read More...

18/01/07 Repairs to path to Dunnottar Castle Under way Sections of the route between Stonehaven's war memorial and Dunnottar Castle which had become dangerously close to the cliff edge due to landslips, is to be realigned and resurfaced . Aberdeenshire Council, in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage, is funding the improvements which total £60,000 and will be completed by Easter 2008.

16/11/07 Public Meeting Held regarding Redundant BT Maritime Coastal Radio Station At Stonehaven Community Centre on Monday 12th November 2007 A public meeting was held to discuss utilising the redundant radio station site for community purposes. The radio stationed was opened in 1956, extended in 1976 and closed in June 2000. The building became a "listed building" in August 2004 and has subsequently lain dormant ever since. Whilst remaining empty the building has suffered serious vandalism and is now boarded-up and protected by a steel fence erected in 2007. Read More.....

Stonehaven Town Hall Study – Potential Investigated Potential future uses for Stonehaven Town Hall have been revealed in a feasibility study commissioned by the Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership. The study, undertaken by Jura Consultants, was commissioned by the partnership, consisting of Aberdeenshire Council, Scottish Enterprise Grampian and Scottish Homes, in May 1998. The town hall was identified as a priority project because of its importance in the local community. Read More..

The Hogmanay celebrations in Stonehaven escaped the severe weather which affected celebrations elsewhere in Scotland. Festivities started at 7pm with the Open Air Festival in the Market Square. A North Sound DJ and the Stonehaven Pipe Band helped to rouse the crowds. Read More
