The Nappy Laundry Company was set up in October last year. The Stonehaven based business, provides a unique service to the North East of Scotland, helping make real nappies a realistic choice for busy mums in Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen City and North Angus.
Business owner and mum of two Nicole Hepburn said: "Most people celebrate with a cake, but the 26 empty wheelie bins represent the amount of nappies we have prevented going to landfill, the equivalent of almost 2 tonnes in mass, and that is something to celebrate.
"At the moment a staggering eight million disposable nappies are thrown away everyday in the United Kingdom with the majority of these ending up in landfill, so any reduction in this is a great achievement."
The Nappy Laundry Company offers a weekly collection of soiled nappies, dropping off freshly laundered nappies at the same time. The soiled nappies are then put through a thorough eco-friendly laundry system.
Nicole added: "With the change to the fortnightly household waste pick-ups, many families find their wheelie bin overflowing with disposable nappies. Using our service will see an end to the weekly trip to the local dump and a reduction in landfill."
Scottish Waste Aware Group's Chris Morrison said: "Real Nappies have the benefits of being easy to use. In addition to this they are also an important part of diverting waste from landfill. Although the overall environmental impact of using Real Nappies has been debated the re-use of nappies will help to prevent household waste being sent to landfill."
The Nappy Laundry Company provides clients with nappy bins, pure cotton nappies, wraps, biodegradable liners and recycled bin liners. They also stock a range of organic toiletries and eco-friendly disposables.
