Originally from Larne, Co Antrim, twenty great years in Stonehaven, Scotland, a few in Broadstairs, Kent and recently Catalonia in Spain, always on the coast, my love of the sea is very prominent in my music.
My interest in my native Irish folk music developed in my late teens when, along with my mates, Davy Thompson and Pete Craig from Larne, stumbled across that icon of a folk album 'A Feast of Irish Folk' featuring great songs from the likes of Christie Moore, The Bards and The Dublin City Ramblers.
Many a harmony session was echoed in the splendid accoustics in the showers of Larne rugby club after a hard match.
I started learning these lovely ballads over the years, mainly airing them at various parties and swarries. It wasn't untill I left Larne in 1983 to take up draughting work in the oil industry of Aberdeen that I started performing 'live' in pubs and clubs in Scotland, along with fellow Larne man, Eugene Kemp on mandolin and vocals.
We went on to start a ceilidh band called Poteen, along with local Aberdonians Gordon Ledingham on fiddle, Alistair (Lofty) Say on accordian and Gordon (Goggs) Park on Bass and later Kinnon Buchan on bass.
Many good times were had, especially in the mid ninetees when the great Irish pub boom hit Britain (and the World!)Very first to play the original O'Neill's chain of pubs in Aberdeen.
Over the past ten years I've progressed on a more solo path edging towards the folk club and festival circuit, playing the Stonehaven, Orkney, Glenfarg and Broadstairs festivals and clubs.
This is my passion and after a shortage of gigging over the past couple of years, due mainly to working offshore on the rigs, am now embarking on furthering my music, wherever it takes me....
I released my latest album 'Best of Both Worlds' in December last year (2005) and am currently working on my next one which should be ready this winter all going well.
