ANGULAR SOUND BAFFLE ‘ASB’

A breakthrough in sound technology

Patents pending

Angular Sound Baffle

The unique Angular Sound Baffle is manufactured and supplied only by Perkins Acoustics Limited

Sound tests carried out on site and verified by independent consultants confirm that the Sound Baffle outperforms other ‘between floor products’ by a considerable margin.

·        Four times the improvement compared to Glass fibre in void.

·        Three times the improvement compared to dense rockfibre in void.

·        Fits between existing floor joists

·        Adjusts for different widths between joists.

·        Sits low down in floor void – avoids cable and pipe installations.

·        Not necessary to remove all of the floorboards to fit Sound Baffles.

·        Outperforms most other flooring systems when linked with our floating floor.

·        No increase in floor height using existing floorboards.

a)     Retaining existing floorboards

                      I.      Having removed sufficient floorboards (usually approximately 25%) a resilient layer is inserted into the base of the void, between the joists.

II.      Sound Baffles are then placed on top of the resilient layer in the void and a further resilient layer is laid over the Sound Baffles to complete the system.

III.      Floorboards are replaced using screws and then all floorboards are checked and screwed where necessary, to minimise squeaking.

IV.      Finally, acoustic mastic is injected into any gaps between the floorboards or, if carpets are fitted, our sound blocker layer BL20 can be laid over the floorboards prior to re fitting the carpets.

NOTE:  The ceiling is checked to ensure it is suitable for accepting the additional weight of the sound baffles, otherwise metal straps are fitted to the sides of the joists at regular intervals, prior to fitting the sound baffles.

b) Sound Baffle with floating floor

Tests were carried out by independent sound consultants in the same room of a typical three bedroom house.

One of the UK’s top selling floating floor systems was first installed according the to manufacturer’s fitting instructions andd then sound tested.

This was then removed and Perkins Acoustics Sound Baffles and floating floor was installed and then sound tested.

The sound test results were as follows:

1)               AIRBORNE :  Both floor systems were within 1Db** of each other.

2)             IMPACT :   Perkins Acoustics’ system outperformed the competitor by 7Db**

2)           Sound Absorber

Perkins Acoustics’ Sound Absorbers are manufactured from Rock Fibre and are fitted between the joists to reduce the build up of reverberated noise within the floor/ceiling void.  They should be used in conjunction with an acoustic floor or ceiling treatment.

Sound absorbers are considerably outperformed by Perkins Acoustics’ Sound Baffles and we only recommend their use on a cost saving basis.
