Who We Are

Low Lands Farm has been in our family for three generations . In total it covers 150 acres with
Cragg Wood and the River Gaunless running along the edge of the farm .

We have two children , Abigail who is 14 and Oliver who is 11 .
Keith runs the farming side and Alison runs the self-catering cottages with help from our good friend Judy .

The renovation of Stonecroft Cottage in 1997 was so successful that we renovated a second cottage
Swallows Nest in May 2000. As it is mostly on one level it was renovated with disabled people in mind.

As you can see, we welcome our guests participation especially during lambing time when we encourage everyone and anyone to take the night shift!!

This is Mo our good friend Judy's horse. She is a permanent (and welcome) guest. She mostly eats all day and so to get a picture of her NOT eating is truly something.

And so onto Pippin our children's pony. She may be small in comparison to Mo but she certainly knows how to look after herself "pony with attitude" perhaps!

Regular visitors to Swallows Nest will remember these two faces (if you are lucky and not the other end!) at the sitting room window begging for food.

We buy sheep in the Autumn and lamb in early Spring. Some of the sheep are sold and some are kept for the following year.

Cattle are our main concern and although it fluctuates throughout the year we normally have around 200 head. Calves are born during the Spring and Summer months.

Our other animal guests are our hens who give us lovely , fresh , free range eggs and Glen our lovable farm dog.

As you can see there's one friendly hen and two cheeky chicks in this photo!!!
