The Sizzling Scot Steakhouse and Grill in Edinburgh's Dalry area, is not a place you could easily miss. You'll be glad of that once you've tried it.. Please believe the Special Offer deal on the board outside. Because all the food on offer is special and an excellent deal. Just try the Lunchtime Special if you think I kid! The Sizzling Scot is aptly named. We are a canny lot, after all, so they're appealing to that. And the abundance of of Scots maxims and anedotes on the windows make us all feel at home. But you don't have to be canny or Scottish to eat there, just a lover of delicous food--even if you may need an interpreter to read the menu! And here's the unique thing about this steakhouse and grill: they cater for vegetarians. So if you've any friends or family who are vegetarians, you can bring them along. Though once they see--and smell--the menu, they'll relapse to being carnivores. The Sizzling Scot pride themselves on serving only choice Scottish ingredients. The menu list points to the origins of the food on offer. The only meat you'll eat is from livestock reared right here in Caledonia. And it's the best. Starters include haggis (vegi option), smoked salmon, hearty soups, black pudding, mussels... Is yer mooth no' watterin' yet!? Mine is just writing this column. Besides the catering for vegetarians, the Sizzling Scot offers a variety of food I wouldn't expect to find in a steakhouse and grill. When I think of the sauces, toppings, cheeses, desserts, wines and spirits on offer, I can only think of one thing I don't like about The Sizzling Scot: It's not in Perthshire--where I live!   Martin Horan
