The Live at The George Comedy Club is going from strength to strength. As fans of stand up from our time living in London, we were keen to start a club and booked our first gig with some trepidation, not knowing how it might go down in South Molton and what the take-up might be.
We were bowled over by the sell out performances (100 tickets) of Boothby Graffoe (of Radio 4 and TV fame) and John Cooper Clarke (punk poet extraordinaire) – our first two gigs in 2005! There followed a gap of a few months and then we took the plunge with Britain’s only deaf comedian Steve Day –also a mighty success. What Next? Russell Howard in early 2006, followed by Howard Read with Little Howard (no relation) – Britain’s only interactive animated comedian. Later in 2006 we booked Robin Ince - also a great success.
In 2007, Russell Howard came back in a sell out performance and Lucy Porter was also sold out and truly fantastic! We enjoyed Fred Wedlock's evening of music and comedy and also Rob Deering with his "Charmageddon" show. Simon Evans has just been here and he was also extremely funny. We've also started a Comedy show format with four comedians performing on the same evening hosted by Kevin Drewsbury and he is coming back again with some new friends on Friday 30th May 2008.
Who else would you like to see? Let us know and we'll do our best to get them here to Devon! See Events List for full details.
