JACK LAWRENCE with Richard Plank 8.30pm Tickets £8.00 For online booking click here
Jack Lawrence is heralded as one of the finest acoustic guitarists in the country. Known as an "acoustic powerhouse," his musicianship on the flat top guitar has mesmerised audiences for decades. His style is eclectic, encompassing americana, blues, bluegrass and "sophisticated folk." Jack is best known for his role as partner to Doc Watson since the early 1980's. Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, his musical odyssey began at age ten when his father took a job as sound engineer for a local music hall. Here the young Jack had backstage access to many of the top acts in the Country, Bluegrass and Gospel fields as well as the local R'n'B bands. During the early 70’s he played with Bluegrass pioneers The New Deal String Band as well as honing his technique in rock & country bands and touring in a folk duo with Joe Smothers. For this leg of his tour, Jack will be joined by English finger-picking guitarist Richard Plank. www.jacklawrence.com

JIM CRAWFORD Saturday 25th September 8.30pm Tickets £7.50 To book online click here
Local favourite Jim Crawford returns with his own inimitable take on blues, folk and gospel music. Originally from Lancashire, Jim is a shy and retiring man who readily admits that recording studios fill him with dread and that he’d rather go fishing with his dog for company. He has, nonetheless, toured much of Europe and the U.S.A captivating audiences with his intimate blues style & fine fingerpicking. He first came to the attention of a wider blues audience when invited to record a session for the BBC’s Paul Jones Show. When quizzed by Paul about recent concert work we glimpsed the sense of humour that lights up Jim’s live shows when he wryly replied, "I've just played at the Appledore school fete where I was second in the popularity stakes to a bouncy castle!" Jim’s profile as a songwriter had a sudden boost last year when Beth Rowley asked to cover his song ‘When the Rains Came’ on her most recent album. www.jimcrawford.org.uk

| Toby Walker

TOBY WALKER Friday 22nd October 8.30pm Tickets £9.00 For online booking click here
No self-respecting blues fan should miss this show! Musically, the bard from Long Island, now transplanted to New Jersey, is a guitar virtuoso and performer who deserves ranking among the very best in the genre as one of the unsung treasures of the North American acoustic blues scene. Superlative as a slide guitarist and finger-picker, his stylistic repertoire seems limitless. Equal parts instrumentalist, singer and storyteller, Toby Walker plays with the grit and true-hearted feeling of a man whose heart and soul lives and knows the blues. Few musicians in the acoustic blues genre have worked harder at mastering and synthesising a wide range of styles. For two decades he took every opportunity to travel down South to apprentice with the old-school bluesmen, learning finger picking and slide methods, syncopations, rhythms and tunings directly from the last generation of Golden-Era blues musicians. like R.L. Burnside, Eugene Powell (aka. Sonny Boy Nelson), James "Son" Thomas, Jack Owens of Betonia and Etta Baker. Toby’s easy style, witty, knowledgeable stories and absolute mastery of his craft make him a true entertainer of the first order. www.littletobywalker.com

DICK GAUGHAN Sunday 28th November 7.00pm Tickets £10.00 For online booking click here
Dick Gaughan was brought up immersed in the musical traditions and culture of the Gaels both Scots and Irish - which naturally provide the foundation for all he does. His mother, Frances MacDonald was a Highland Scot who was a singer in Gaelic (her first language). His Scots-born father had an Irish speaking father from County Mayo who was an accomplished fiddle player. Dick Gaughan took up the guitar at the age of seven and has now been a professional musician for 40 years. He began playing mainly traditional songs on an acoustic guitar, but now writes his own songs as well as performing those of others. The intensity & power of his words and performance are legendary.
Although his approach to performing concentrates strongly on the song itself, Gaughan is known as a master of the acoustic guitar. He was an early member of Boys of the Lough and Five Hand Reel. His greatest musical love is for the ancient traditional Scots ballads, the big story songs, which form a substantial part of Scotland's living wealth of traditional song.
In 2010 Dick won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. www.dickgaughan.co.uk
SPIKEDRIVERS Friday 10th December 8.30pm Tickets £8.50 For online booking click here
One of the most original, innovative and exciting bands around, their combination of gutsy slide guitar, rock-solid bass, infectious grooves and highly distinctive vocals creates a sound that is uniquely their own. They take you on a journey, from southern juke-joints and lazy front porches to the huge open spaces of dust bowls and railroad tracks disappearing into the distance. Spikedrivers’ founder Ben Tyzack's personal delta encompasses Iowa City, Charleston, Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. These were the places he grew up in and they can still be found in the music. He listened to his father's record collection - Dixieland, New Orleans jazz and ragtime –and played guitar in his jazz band and with teenage rock cover bands, but discovered the Blues from an early morning college radio station broadcast while working in a record warehouse in Atlanta. This melting pot has produced the Spikedrivers’ distinctively eclectic style. ‘ The Spikedrivers were simply the revelation of the festival' - The More Blues Festival – Belgium ‘...The atmosphere the band is able to create is nothing less than remarkable’ Blues Revue USA. www.spikedrivers.co.uk
