These longer leaders are designed for delicate presentation in low water, or clear water conditions.  They ensure possitive turn over and long balanced casts.  They are an essential part of the Scandanavian shooting head system, where the leader forms the anchor point when underhand casting.  The leaders have an extended butt section that will turn over large flies into a nasty wind.
