We say farewell to Mieke Walker & family, who have now left the UK for an enviable few months’ travelling before settling down in her native Netherlands – Mieke, we will miss your cheerful presence at the Coffee Mornings, so don’t lose touch, send us your new address!
We will also be saying goodbye to Flops Lewis and her family, who will be returning to Zimbabwe in the coming months. Flops, you will be much missed by the membership at large and in particular by the Evening Bridge Group, who have written their own heartfelt and special thank you (see page 4). And to anyone who has a dog, cat or home that could do with some attendance while you are away, don’t forget that Flops has offered her services until she leaves!
A huge thank you to Madeleine van Zyl for having organised such a lovely array of events for our little ones and their Mums over the past years; Madeleine will be taking a well-deserved back seat now, and we are looking for someone, probably with an under-5 year-old of their own, to take over running Mums & Tots. This is such an essential first point of (adult and social!) contact for new members with young children, I would be very sorry to see it fold, however few members it currently holds.
For those of you, like me, who always look forward to the Summer Lunch, you will be glad to see the details in this month’s Newsletter. We are very pleased to be able to hold it at Squerryes, a charming and elegant 17thC private stately home just outside Westerham. As places are perforce limited, please send in your reply and cheque as soon as possible.
Finally, we are very fortunate to have Murray Letham as our speaker at our Coffee Morning this month; whatever your/your children/your grandchildren’s use or interest in the internet, do come on Thursday 22. You will acquire information and tips directly from someone who works on internet child (and general self-) protection, something you would be unable to source as well anywhere else.
