Water Pumps
How to select your water pump?
1. Determine the water quality: whether it is clear and has little sediment or whether it is heavily sedimented water. For sea water or fertiliser VEE recommends the Aqualine™ Technic XC 23.4H, because of its corrosion resistant construction. (List of liquid fertilisers is available on request.)
2. The flow and pressure required depending on the head loss. (Head loss is a function of the length, diameter and quality of piping being used.)
2.1 Calculate the “Height of Elevation” required
Height of Elevation = Suction Height + Discharge Height + Head Loss
Suction Height = height between the level of the water and the axle of the pump. This cannot be more than 8M
Discharge Height = height between the pump axle and the highest point in the network
The Head Loss is a measure of the resistance encountered in the pipes. It is calculated according to the length, diameter and quality of the pipes being used. (As a general rule of thumb, use 20% of the pipe length being used as the head loss).
2.2 Determining the flows
The flow, (L/Min) is determined by checking the required height in elevation in metres on the graph.
2.3 Finally, check that the pressure required is less than the maximum pressure for the pump being used.
Pressure required = (The maximum height of elevation for each pump – the required height in elevation) / 10 bars pressure. Check that the remaining pressure is less than the maximum pressure specification for the pump.
